Testing Services offers current SAIT students, along with students from other institutions flexible options to take exams.
Our classroom-based testing environment is video-monitored and our computers are equipped with LanSchool software to monitor activity, restrict access and help ensure exam integrity.
We abide by the following AC.3.3.1 Invigilation and Security of Examinations Procedure and the AC.3.3.2 Distance Education Invigilation and Security of Examinations Procedure policies.
Booking an exam
Distance students writing exams for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Pharmacy Assistant (dual credit only) programs, and students taking Anatomy and Physiology (ANPH) or Infection Prevention and Control (INFC) courses, please fill out an exam request form (unless you have been advised otherwise).
What to expect when writing an exam
Testing Services requires government or institution-issued identification (driver's license, passport, school ID card) and some institutions require us to view two pieces of identification.
If you are writing an external exam, please check with your company or institution and come prepared.
Only exam-specified materials (calculator, pencil, eraser) and a re-sealable drink container are allowed in the testing centre.
Examinees are not permitted to bring in electronic dictionaries, cell phones, smart watches, music players or anything with wi-fi capabilities, along with other unauthorized materials (class notes, textbooks) unless the exam instructions explicitly state these items are allowed. Guests or children are not permitted into the testing room, please have them wait outside and arrange for childcare before writing your exam.
If you have questions regarding permitted exam materials, please contact your instructor, institution or company.
The testing centre consists of computer-based and paper-based exam rooms. We do our best to maintain proper testing conditions and can provide earplugs and/or noise-cancelling headphones on request. Access to water fountains and restrooms are nearby if required.
If you have documented disabilities and require accommodations for your exam, please contact Accessibility Services.
The keyboard assessment is a computerized test consisting of:
- 30 minutes of practice time
- five attempts of the assessment, with five minutes each time
- a $50 sitting fee
Assessments can be taken once, every seven days to the minute and must be booked 24 hours in advance and cannot be booked during SAIT final exam periods. Applicants requesting prerequisite testing must be 17 years of age before the date of registration.
Invigilation services for instructors
SAIT instructors can arrange for make-up exams for students by filling out an Invigilation form, following the steps outlined below.
Instructor completes and submits a Testing Services Invigilation form and sends to Testing Services — a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the scheduled test, through one of the following methods:
You are welcome to print off and complete the form and bring it with the exam and any other required materials to Testing Services in the Lamb Learner Success Centre, Room MC221.
|After the instructor receives the exam(s) from Testing Services, you can choose one of two options to indicate how you would like to have your exam returned to you under the special instruction heading on the Testing Services Invigilation Form:
Note: if the exam is Brightspace D2L and there are no other materials, you are not required to pick up the completed invigilation form after the exam.
An external exam that comes from another institution or company other than SAIT requires a SAIT invigilator or proctor for supervision.
Testing Services will distribute, invigilate and collect exams for external organizations and other universities and colleges.
To book an external exam:
- contact your institution for an exam invigilation request form
- include the required contact information, and the courier or mailing fees
- include copies of the exam, as well as instructions and procedures
- all exam sitting and courier fees must be paid by the examinee or sending institution before writing.

There is a $100 fee per exam, and the fee must be paid beforehand by either you or your institution. You must let us know in advance who is covering the fee.
It is the responsibility of either you, or your institution to arrange the delivery of the exams in advance of the examination, and there must be a pre-paid envelope to return paper-based exams and any written materials required.
