Day of Convocation
SAIT convocation ceremonies take place at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium adjacent to SAIT's main campus located in Calgary, Alberta.
Cheer on our graduands from anywhere — view each convocation ceremony live!
12 - 12:30 pm arrival | 12:30 - 12:50 pm seated
Upon arrival, your guests should proceed directly to the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Give your guests their tickets (children, including infants, require a ticket) before you proceed to the gowning area in the Symposium Room, V202, Campus Centre. You won't be able to leave the processional line to pick up your guest tickets.
If you registered for convocation but didn't pick up your guest tickets before the ceremony, your guests can pick them up at the information booth, located on the main floor of the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. You must provide your guests with your full name and SAIT student ID number for reference.
If your guests require special considerations for seating and you didn't indicate this when you registered, please contact the Office of the Registrar, and we will make the necessary arrangements.
Extra guest tickets may be available on the day of convocation. Guests can inquire if additional tickets are available at the SAIT information booth located in the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium lobby one hour before the start of the ceremony, on a first-come, first-served basis. There's no guarantee that extra tickets will be available on the day of convocation.
11:30 am - 12:15 pm pick-up | 3:30 - 4:30 pm return
Pick up your cap, gown, stole and name pronunciation card in the Symposium Room, V202, Campus Centre. Only graduands are allowed in the gowning and processional area.
After the ceremony, celebrate by taking photos in the lobby and on the lawn surrounding the Jubilee — remember to share your success and pride on social using the hashtag #SAIT2017.
Your gown must be returned within one hour of the ceremony’s conclusion to the Symposium Room or you will be required to pay a $100 late fee.
12:15 - 12:50 pm
Once you are gowned, you'll meet other graduands from your program in the processional area in the ACAD hallway attached to the Jubilee. You’ll line up alphabetically, so remember who is on either side of you and remain in alphabetical order for the duration of the ceremony and will be directed by ushers when it is time to enter the auditorium.
1 - 3:30 pm
The ceremony will begin promptly at 1 pm. Guests in the auditorium are asked to stand for the processional. All guests, graduands and the platform party are asked to remain standing until after O Canada. You'll then be asked to be seated for the duration of the ceremony. For assistance during the ceremony, please see an usher.
Crossing the stage
An usher will collect you from your seat in the auditorium and lead you backstage. When it's your turn, you'll be instructed to walk onstage and pass the announcer your name pronunciation card. Stay there until your full name has been announced, then walk to the middle of the stage where you will be greeted by the SAIT President and CEO, the Chair of the Board of Governors, your Dean, and your Academic Chair.
Walk to the right side of the stage and descend the steps. Return to your seat as guided by an usher. Out of respect for your peers, we ask that you please remain seated until the ceremony has fully completed. There will be a recessional of the graduates and the platform party at the end of the ceremony.
You'll receive your credential backstage before you cross the stage. Credentials that aren't picked up at the ceremony will be mailed out the week after convocation. If you are not attending convocation, please verify that your mailing address is correct in mySAIT and email firstname.lastname@example.org.
SAIT Alumni is pleased to give you a gift, a FREE photo of you in cap-and-gown as you cross the stage and shake hands with the SAIT President and CEO. You can order your photo online from Mountain West Studios using your email and the order code in the convocation book. The photos will be available for viewing approximately one week after the ceremony.
A photographer will also be available at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium during convocation for individual and family portraits on a first-come, first-served basis.
