Graduation marks the completion of your studies — you have completed all the requirements for your program. You will be awarded your credential — a degree, diploma or certificate.
Convocation is a tradition that commemorates graduates' accomplishments. It refers to the formal ceremony where the administration, faculty, SAIT community, family and friends watch the graduand cross the stage and receive their credential.
To determine if you have met all program requirements and you're eligible to graduate, go to mySAIT.ca, choose the myStudent tab and check your graduation status online with WebCAPP. Review the step-by-step instructions.
You will receive your credential as you cross the stage. If you don't attend convocation, your credential will be mailed the day after the ceremony. If you won't be attending convocation, make sure that we have your current address. Due to the large volume of parchments that we handle we cannot hold individual parchments for pickup.
If your employer, other post-secondary institution(s) or other agency requests proof that you have finished your program, you may order a copy of your transcript. Your transcript is a copy of your academic record and can be used to show that you have completed your program and that your credential has been awarded.
You can order your official transcript online at mySAIT.ca. Go to the myStudent tab, select Student Records, and choose Request an Official Transcript.
SAIT holds two convocations each year. You will be eligible to attend a ceremony depending on when you complete your program requirements.

Registration for Spring Convocation 2018 will open in mid-March. Eligible students will receive an email invitation to register.
It costs $50 to register to attend convocation. The fee includes up to two guest tickets, gown rental, and a hat and credential holder that are yours to keep.
The Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is a multi-level facility with many stairs. If you require special seating arrangements or other considerations then you will be able to notify us during registration Part 3: Request your gown and guest tickets. If you missed that part of registration, contact the Office of the Registrar immediately and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.
Space restrictions mean you're only guaranteed up to two guest tickets each, although you may request up to four tickets each (children, including infants, require their own ticket).
You'll be notified by email about four weeks before the ceremony when guest tickets are ready for pick-up and how many tickets you received.
No. Children (including infants) require a guest ticket to enter the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and must be included in your guest ticket request.
Strollers and infant carriers are not permitted in the auditorium. There's a viewing area outside the auditorium for guests with small children.
Additional tickets may be available on the day of Convocation. Guests can inquire if extra tickets are available at the SAIT information booth located in the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium lobby one hour before the start of the ceremony, on a first-come, first-served basis. There's no guarantee that extra guest tickets will be available on the day of Convocation.
We will email you about four weeks before the ceremony with the total number of guest tickets you've received and how you can pick them up.
You'll be notified by email when your tickets are available for pick-up at the Office of the Registrar, AA211, Heritage Hall. Bring your SAIT student ID card or other government-issued photo identification.
If you're unable to pick up your guest tickets, they'll be available at the SAIT Ticket/Information Booth on the day of convocation. Your guests can pick up their tickets at the SAIT information booth located in the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium lobby if they provide your full name and SAIT student ID number.
The Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is a multi-level facility with many stairs. You'll be seated with your classmates in reserved seating. Children cannot be seated with the graduands and must be seated with another guest in the auditorium.
Guest seating is assigned. Every attempt will be made to seat your guests together, but additional guests are likely to be seated separately.
All guests should be seated 10 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Late guests will not be seated until directed by an usher at a suitable break in the ceremony.
You'll be wearing a black gown which will come to just below the knee. Wear a pair of dress pants or skirt (they'll show below the gown) and shoes appropriate for a formal event.
You'll be standing for long periods of time, so light clothing and comfortable shoes are highly recommended.
Leave your coat, purse or bag at home or with your guests. There's a coat check at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium for a small fee. You won't be able to leave your belongings on the stage or at your seat, as your seat may change when you return from crossing the stage. If you bring them, then you'll have to carry them with you as you cross the stage. SAIT and the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
You should proceed immediately to gowning in the Symposium Room, V202, Campus Centre. Guests (with guest tickets) should go directly to the lobby of the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. If your guests still need their tickets, instruct them to pick up their tickets at the SAIT information booth located in the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium lobby and give them your SAIT student ID number for reference.

The ceremony is approximately two to three hours long. We ask that you stay for the entire event out of respect for your fellow graduands.
Gowns and stoles/hoods must be returned to the Symposium Room, V202, Campus Centre within one hour of the ceremony’s conclusion or you will be charged $100.
Photos and Souvenirs
Mountain West Studios will be available for portraits on-campus. Dates will be announced on the Portraits and Photos page. Mountain West Studios will have gowns and stoles available.
A photographer will also be at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium during convocation for individual and family portraits on a first-come, first-served basis.
SAIT Alumni is pleased to give you a gift, a FREE photo of you in cap-and-gown as you cross the stage and shake hands with the SAIT President and CEO. Your code to access the photo is in your convocation book and will be available the week after convocation.
