Field school trips

Explore program-specific topics and gain applied, hands-on learning through short duration field school trips. On a field school trip, you will undertake a combination of coursework, assignments, and field studies that will integrate learning with the location.

Architecture Study Tour

Description: Students in the Architectural Technologies program have the opportunity to embark on a 10-day study tour to Chicago and NYC, two of the most architecturally significant cites in North America.
Asia Architecture Study Tour

Eligible programs: Architectural Technology program
Description: This study tour will allow SAIT Architectural Technology students to experience world-famous architecture and design up close, with the assistance and expertise of an instructor and professional tour guides by their side. Learning will build on Architectural Technology curriculum and provide students awareness and inspiration to architectural environments distinct from western societies. Students will experience first-hand how connected architecture is with the urban fabric and mass transit systems of a metropolis. The dense urban landscapes will reinforce the benefits and drawbacks of higher density living to which North American cities are moving towards.

Description: Learn about design thinking as a method for practical and creative problem solving and how to develop focused solutions while studying at the Institute of Technical Education in Singapore. Take in the breathtaking view of Clarke Quay, discover the Bay area, Chinatown and Little India and shop the markets along the Singapore River. 
Culinary Study Tour to Eastern Europe

Description: Learn about the culture and rich history of Eastern Europe while discovering the vibrant culinary scenes in Berlin, Prague and Vienna. Through hands-on learning, you’ll take away new techniques that you can immediately apply in the kitchen.
Hospitality Management Study Tour 2018

Description: Get a taste for adventure in Vietnam. Explore the countryside or bask on Nha Trang's perfect beaches with your classmates. You’ll also develop your language skills and develop lifelong friendships while learning about the local hospitality management industry.
Medical Radiological Technology

Eligible programs: Diagnostic Medical Sonography Diploma
Description: Gain a better understanding of the Medical Radiology Technology field while studying at the Metropolitan University College in Copenhagen, Denmark. You'll learn about Danish healthcare, history, culture and education systems through field trips to local hospitals and through classroom instruction. Take time to explore Copenhagen — shop the Strøget, see the famed Tivoli Gardens, Kronborg Castle, the century-old The Little Mermaid sculpture and more. 

Program-specific study tours

Hone your skills during a program-specific study tour. Get international exposure to another side of your industry while gaining applied, hands-on learning that you can immediately apply to your studies. 

Exchange to Kagawa Prefectural University
Travelling to: Takamatsu, Japan Travelling in: July 6 – July 22, 2018 Cost: $4,900 Application deadline: March 1, 2018
Eligible programs: All School of Health and Public Safety programs
Description: This two-week trip to our partner, Kagawa Prefectural University in Takamatsu, Japan, is open to up to four SAIT students led by a SAIT faculty or staff member. Students will join in the Medical Technology and/or Nursing programs at Kagawa Prefectural University for a collaborative, international learning experience.

Home to over 300 manufacturing plants and two dozen Fortune 500 companies — like Rockwell Collins, General Mills and Quaker Oats — Cedar Rapids is also known for its world-class dining, shopping, art and culture scenes. 
World Conference of the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science
Travelling to: Florence, Italy Travelling in: September 19 - 29, 2018 Cost: $4,250 Application deadline: March 1, 2018
Eligible programs: Medical Laboratory Technology
Description: Students will have an opportunity to attend an international congress related to their profession. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about new technologies and the role of biomedical laboratory science in the delivery of ‘patient-centered’ healthcare, ‘personalized medicine’, ‘gender-medicine’ and its impact on Biomedical Laboratory Science. Students are invited to participate in the congress through activities and sessions provided by the Student Forum.

Service learning programs

Give back through serving local communities across the globe while gaining invaluable experience. Service learning programs can be more physically demanding than other programs, but they can also be more rewarding. Combining education with community service, you'll volunteer or work on a civic engagement project and then reflect on your experience in the classroom.

Description: Travel to Cambodia to work on a community-focused project while you make lifelong connections from around the globe. Discover the sights of the capital city of Phnom Penh, travel to Siem Reap to cruise the largest lake in the region, Tonle Sap, and see floating villages, and explore the vast complex of the temples of Angkor, where you can marvel at the iconic Angkor Wat.
PANA Service Learning
Travelling to: Panajachel, Guatemala Travelling in: February - March, 2018 Cost: $2,100 Application deadline: Closed
Eligible programs: Architectural Technology, EDDT and Journalism programs
Description: SAIT students and instructors join together to combine program learning activities with a significant philanthropic endeavour. Grown from the Architectural Technologies Program in the SAIT School of Construction, this Study Abroad opportunity has expanded to include students from other schools and programs in SAIT, including the Engineering Design and Drafting Technologies and Journalism programs. Each year, a selection of applicants pair up with a Guatemalan NGO, Mayan Families, to raise funds for, and participate in the construction of, a home for an impoverished family. In the past, students have also experienced other branches of Mayan Families such as their trade school, health services, and education services, all contributing to improving the lives of the local indigenous communities.

Semester exchanges

Want to travel for a while longer? Choose to take pre-determined courses through one of our partner institutions over a full-semester term. Courses align with your SAIT program and, upon successful completion, you’ll gain academic credit towards your program.

International workplace experiential learning

Travel and work outside of Canada on a work placement to complete your SAIT program practicum requirements. You can identify your placement provider or leverage existing SAIT networks identified through your program practicum coordinator.

The Washington Centre

Description: Spend the summer immersed in historic Washington, D.C. participating in an internship relevant to your SAIT program. Discover the capital's rich history through visits to numerous monuments, museums and memorials. During your internship, you'll engage in meaningful coursework and programming, expand your network — you'll leave equipped with the skills and confidence to thrive in your future career. 
The Alberta-Saxony Intercultural Internship Alliance

Description: Travel to vibrant Saxony, Germany for an internship through the Alberta-Saxony Internship Program. Known as the cultural capital of Germany, discover Saxony's world-renowned art scene. During your internship, you'll be involved in research, technology and business practices in a wide variety of areas including, health, energy, environment, education and economic development. You’ll gain essential professional development and life skills, preparing you to succeed in your future career.
