Get ready for SAIT's first Giving Day
Giving to SAIT was one of the motivators behind SAITSA President, Alex Dimopoulos' decision to become a leader.
"As a student, I received a memorial scholarship set up by a donor. I also worked part time for the Alumni and Development calling program. My job was to ask alumni to donate to SAIT. I talked to a lot of generous and accomplished donors. Many of them showed their love by giving back. They were a big influence on me to run for SAITSA president."
That spirit of motivation and inspiration is behind SAIT's first Giving Day, Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.
The goal is to raise $25,000 in just 24 hours in support of SAIT students and to raise awareness about the impact of donor funds on the campus and our students.
"We're looking for the entire SAIT community — staff, students, faculty and alumni to participate on Giving Day," says Jorge Torres, Annual Giving Officer with SAIT Alumni and Development and graduate from the Business Administration program in 2010. "I know SAIT has a big heart. It has been my Canadian family ever since I moved here from Mexico. I received a great education and now I work here. I give to SAIT because I know the impact it can have on our students."
Throughout the day, there will be many challenges and prizes to be won as our funding total rises. When we reach a challenge goal, money will be unlocked and added to the campaign. The biggest challenge is to reach our $25,000 goal which will unlock an additional $10,000 for the campaign.
And, like every good contest these days — there's a hashtag — #SAITGIVES. Follow the SAIT and SAIT Alumni social channels to watch the action and join in on the conversation. Tell your friends, family and connections what SAIT means to you and come out to support our students. If #SAITGIVES is trending by noon on Monday, Oct. 30, $500 in challenge money will be unlocked, and if we reach 300 uses of the hashtag by 7 am on Tuesday, Oct. 31, $2,500 will be unlocked and added to the campaign.
Part of the campaign will also feature many SAIT facilities and spaces around campus that are made possible by our donor partners. Keep your eyes out for the big red tags and if you see one, snap a selfie and post it with #SAITGIVES.
All of the money raised on Giving Day will go directly to funds that impact SAIT students. Two priority funds were created to be launched on Giving Day. The Student Success fund supports campus life initiatives, infrastructure and new technology. It will support the mental health of our students as well as their academic development. The Alumni Scholarship Fund which will top up underfunded student awards, building more money for the Student Awards program which today provides nearly $6 million to students at SAIT every year.
